Strat-O-Matic 1988 Replay Cubs Games 1-2


The Chicago Cubs play their first 2 games of the season against the Braves in Atlanta.


While this is the Cubs first games of the season stats wise I'm going to include their stats against the Mets because it would be just too much work to separate them all out.

Game 1: Chicago Cubs @ Atlanta Braves

Greg Maddux (1-0) gets a win today with 7 innings pitched while giving up 5 hits, 5 Ks, 1 BB and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 1.29. Goose Gossage pitched 2 innings of relief giving up 2 hits, 3 Ks, 0 BBs and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 4.50.

Andre Dawson was 4 for 5 with 2 singles, a double and a triple just missing the home run to hit for the cycle driving in 1 run. Damon Berryhill was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 1 earned a run. Rafael Palmeiro was 2 for 5 with a double and 1 Earned Run.

Rick Mahler got the start for Atlanta and earned a loss in 6 1/3 innings allowing 9 hits, 4 Ks, 2 BBs and 4 Earned Runs for an ERA of 5.68. Jose Alvarez came in for relief pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits, 1 K, 0 BBs and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 3.38.

Dale Murphy went 2 for 4 with a solo home run. Ron Gant also hit a solo home run, his only hit of the game.

Game 2: Chicago Cubs @ Atlanta Braves

The Cubs win game 2 of the series against the Braves 10-3.

On the mound for Chicago was Jamie Moyer (1-0) who earned a win while pitching 8 innings giving up 9 hits, 9 Ks, 1 BB and 2 Earned Runs for an ERA of 2.25. Pat Perry came in to pitch in the 9th with 1 inning pitched and allowing 0 hits, 0 Ks, 1 BB and 0 Earned Runs for an ERA of 0.00.

Andre Dawson was 1 for 6 and drove in 2 runs. Vance Law was 5 for 5 with 1 double and drove in 3 runs. Darrin Jackson was 1 for 6 with a solo home run.

Zane Smith earned the loss for the Braves in 2 2/3 innings pitching surrendering 9 hits, 0 Ks, 3 BBs and 6 Earned Runs for an ERA of 20.25. Charlie Puleo came in to relieve him going 2 2/3 innings and giving up 3 hits, 2 Ks, 1 BB and 0 Earned Runs for an ERA of 0.00. Jose Alvarez came in to pitch in the 5th and went 2 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits, 1 K, 2 BBs and 2 Earned Runs for an ERA of 7.71. Paul Assemacher came in to pitch in the 8th and went 1 1/3 giving up 1 hit, 0 Ks, 0 BBs and 0 Earned Runs for an ERA of 0.00.

Ron Gant went 2 for 5. Dale Murphy went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI. Albert Hall went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple driving in 2 RBIs.

After the Cubs first series, they are (2-0) while the Atlanta Braves are (0-2).
