Cheap Old West Toy Train Set
Currently I've been playing a lot of Red Dead Redemption 2 which has put me in a western mood and with the holidays coming I went on the lookout for a toy train that you'd buy cheap to put under your Christmas tree. Don't get me wrong, I love the model trains that costs hundreds of dollars but I could buy a whole miniature army for the price of the train.
Instead I went on the hunt for a cheap train and I found one. At my local Dollar General I found three different train sets for a total of $5.00. The first two were modern looking trains but the third train was an old west looking train so now I have a train for gaming.
Don't get me wrong, this is a cheap train, cheap cheap train but for what I want it for it is just fine. Maybe when I win the lottery my wargaming table will have very expensive model trains but for now my table will have a 5 dollar train on it.
Upon opening the train engine was very dirty so I gave the engine and car a bath. I don't know if this will destroy the train from moving on battery power but I wasn't going to use it like a typical toy train so I threw them in the pot to help wash them off and to loosen up the stickers on them.
My biggest concern was scale, now I have mentioned numerous times over the years that scale isn't a huge deal to me but I couldn't have miniature people standing taller than the engine. Fortunately, while not perfect, this trains scale isn't too bad. In the picture below you can see a 28mm Sherman tank I've been working on and a 28mm Clint Eastwood from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly that is nearly done and you can see all three don't look too bad together.
Once I get the train finished I'll post some pictures and maybe I'll even play some games with it.
