FASA Star Trek Starship Tactical Combat Simulator

As I've mentioned in numerous posts (Captain Terrell, Regula One, Reliant Crew, Enterprise Crew)  that I always liked and coveted the FASA Star Trek movie starship miniatures but what fun are wargaming miniatures without a wargame to play with them. I finally decided I needed to pick up a copy of this game so I did.

The copy I bought I paid less than 10 dollars shipped and it is basically brand new. I've bought new books in worst condition than this copy so hopefully, It will last me for many years.

I've only skimmed the book so far but I like what I see. It has some very nice line artwork that looks great and gives the book an overall style that other companies of similar games sometimes lack.

FASA the company is dead and this game is long out of print so you can find it online to download if you wish. When I can I like to purchase the original rulebooks for a couple of reasons the biggest being if the power goes out I can still play this game. I know that it sounds funny in this day in age but around 10 years ago a hurricane named Irene ripped through my sleepy little town and we were without power for two weeks. Having limited hookups in our car to charge electrical devices my iPad (to use as a reader for wargaming rules) was pretty low on the list. All you have to do is look at the current pandemic, it's true we haven't lost power because of it but a lot of other things we take for granted are unavailable now so getting my hands on a hard copy of an out of print ruleset isn't the worst thing, plus I really enjoy flipping through a book than reading it on my iPad.

This game was released in a number of manners, usually in a boxed set that comes with counters to play with. I elected to get the book only version for a few reasons. First this is the last revision so it has the most updated rules. Second I already have all the counters I need from the other Federation Commander sets I've bought so the book was the way to go.

One section of the rules I liked was incorporating this game into the FASA RPG. Your player characters man their stations like engineering and science and use their skills to roll to see if they can use emergency power or to try and get a lock on a cloaked Romulan ship. It looks like a great system to use but of course I've not played it in real life so it could be clunky, I just don't know.

I'm reading the rules and painting some minis to play with including some of the originals from the FASA line so very soon you'll have some new battle reports to read so stay tuned.
