Wings Of Glory Video Game Reconnaissance Mission AAR #2

Today I'm playing a Reconnaissance Mission with the video game based on the Wings Of Glory Board Game.  I will need to fly a two-person plane over the area to be filmed and perform a stall so the passenger can take a picture of the area and then escape before being shot down.

I will be flying a Sopwith Camel as a defender of my Airco DH.4 which is a two-seater that will take the pictures. Both of these planes add up to 215 points used. The enemy will be flying two Fokker D.VIIs with one piloted by ACE Rudolf Stark (Purplish Plane) and the second D.VII will be piloted by ACE Gotthard Sachsenberg (Yellow Plane).

Wings Of Glory Dogfight #9 French Nieuport 11 VS Albatros D.III

Recently Ares Games reprinted some of the terrain mats and I was able to get a Noman's Land mat without having to pay hundreds of dollars so to celebrate I had to break some planes out and get them in the air over noman's land. In today's dogfight, I'll be piloting a French Nieuport 11 (this is the first time I've ever used this plane) flown by Jean Chaput while my opponent will be flying a German Albatros D.III with Kurt Gruber behind the stick.

I'll be trying something new with this dogfight. A fan of Wings Of Glory has produced an app that controls AI planes when playing solo. I used it during this dogfight and it worked out very well and I plan to continue using it in future games. Here is an article on Ares Games website as well as a link to the Andriod App and Apple Store.

Wings Of Glory Dogfight (Airco DH4 vs Roland C.IIA) AAR #8

After my last dogfight when I went up against a two-seater I decided I wanted to flight sortie behind the stick of one so I picked my new American Airco DH4 that I got in the other day I will be flying against an even newer plane, a German Roland C.IIA which will be flying using the solo rules developed by Herkybird of the Tyneside Wargamers website.

Wings Of Glory Dogfight RAF Se5a vs UFAG C.1 AAR #7

Today I'll be fighting a duel in the skies between two new planes that I've recently purchased. I'll be flying the British RAF Se5a flown by James Thomas Byford McCudden, the British top ace of WW1 with 57 planes shot down and is also one of the top British aces of all time. Against him will be a new Austrian two-seater the UFAG C.1. Both of these planes were from late in the war and I think it will be a good match between a quick scout plane and a two-seater.

Wings Of Glory Dogfight Sopwith Camel VS Albatros D.III AAR #6

Today I bring you something new, at least for me, a two-seater. I will be flying my favorite Sopwith Camel flown by Belgin Jan Olieslager and I will be going up against an Albatros D.III that was flown by German Emil Meinecke with an unnamed ally in the back seat. This will be my first battle against a two-seater plane that will fire at me if I get behind it to line up the perfect shot, get ready for some excitement.

Wings Of Glory Reinforcements From eBay

I got three new planes in the mail the other day from eBay including two French scouts and one British Two-Seater all flown by American Pilots. Normally I wouldn't make a post about random purchases but these planes are a little more special than the rest.

Wings Of Glory Dogfight (2 Sopwith Camels Vs 2 Albatros D.Va) AAR #5

In today's match, I switch it up a little with a four-plane dogfight. On the Allied side will be two Sopwith Camels, one flown by Canadian Ace Arthur Roy Brown (I'll be flying this plane which is light green) while the other Camel is flown by Belgian ace Jan Olieslager (Dark Green). On the Central Powers side is two Albatros D.Va's, one flown by German Ace Ernst Udet (Black) with the other flown by Karl Friedrich Kurt Jentsch (Yellow and Green).

In this match, I'll be piloting Brown's Camel while the other three planes will be flown using the solo rules developed by Herkybird of the Tyneside Wargamers website. I will be using all of the optional rules in the rulebook for this dogfight.

Ares, the makers of Wings Of Glory has released a series of game mats to play both World War One and Two versions of the game on. These mats are not essential to playing Wings Of Glory but they look great and can really take your games to the next level.

Wings Of Glory Albatros D.Va VS Sopwith Camel Dogfight AAR #2

Today I'll be flying a second sortie using the Wings Of Glory Basic Rules. In today's match, I'll be flying the  German Albatros D.Va (Yellow and Green Plane) of Karl Friedrich Kurt Jentsch and will be going up against a Belgium Sopwith Camel (Dark Green) of Jan Olieslager. I switched sides from my first AAR #1 so I can use the same planes but from the opposite sides to hopefully learn to both fly with and against each type. Just like my previous flight, I'll be using the Face to Face scenario that is in the Duel Pack Solo Rules book and the Sopwith Camel will be flying with AI using the solo rules by Herkybird of the Tyneside Wargames website.

Wings Of Glory Sopwith Camel vs Albatros D.Va Dogfight AAR #1

I first became interested in Wings Of Glory back when it was transitioning from its original name Wings Of War by Nexus into Wings Of Glory by Ares. I loved the game but with most games, I had a problem finding people willing to play it, and in addition to having my health deteriorate to the point of needing surgery I had to put the game back on the shelf for the time being which is where I find myself now. Times change and I now find myself willing and able to play.

I wanted to play some games by myself to relearn the rules before trying to teach anybody new how to play the game. I will be flying a Sopwith Camel flown by Jan Olieslager of Belgium and will be flying against an Albatros D.Va flown by Karl Friedrich Kurt Jentsch for Germany. For the Albatros, I will be using the solo rules that were originally designed by Herkybird and can be found on Tyneside Wargames' website here. Because I'm relearning the game I will be using the Basic Rules for this sortie.

Armistice Day 100th Anniversary

Today is the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day and the end of World War 1. Hopefully in the future all wars are played on tabletops and not in poppy fields.

The Great War Youtube Channel Review

I'm a big fan of anything about World War One and I found a web series on YouTube called "The Great War" that I found fascinating. What they are doing is releasing two videos a week that explain what happened on the same day exactly 100 years ago. The Battle Of The Somme started on July 1, 1916 so on July 1, 2016 they will release a video explaining what happened at the beginning of The Somme. From what I read they will release videos on Monday and Thursday each week so the content of each video will cover a few days.

Wings Of Glory World War 1 Review

Wings of Glory is a miniature plane game by Ares Games. There are two different versions of the game, one based upon World War 1 planes and one for World War 2 games. Despite the games being similar they are not compatible. These games were originally called Wings of War and was released by Nexus Games and had a few different expansions over a number of years. Ares Games bought the rights and started releasing updated rules and planes.
