Wings Of Glory Duel Pack Review (Fokker Dr.1 vs Sopwith Camel)

Up for review today is the Wings of Glory Fokker Dr.1 vs Sopwith Camel Duel Pack by Ares Games. This Duel pack, along with one that contains an Albatros D.Va vs Spad XIII, was released in 2012 with the launch of Wings Of Glory.

When Wings of War first came out it was designed to be played with cards to represent the planes instead of models. When Wings Of Glory was released this changed with the game being played exclusively with planes so two Duel Packs were released that came with the rules and counters to play along with two 1/144 scale airplane models to play with. Ares Games also released a Rules and Accessories Pack that had no planes but contained the complete rules including rules like how to use bombers which were removed from the Duel Packs rulebook since the planes in the packs were fighter planes and not bombers.

Along with the planes this Duel Pack contains the mentioned rulebook which has enough rules to play with the planes contained like mentioned above. The planes included are the Fokker Dr.1 with this one flown by the famous Red Baron for Germany. The second plane is a Sopwith Camel flown by Arthur Roy Brown for Britain. You'll also get a card for each plane, two flight pegs (4 total), two plastic bases for the planes.

This pack also contains two sets of counters, one for each plane. In addition to the counters, each set also has a range ruler to measure weapon distances.

You also get two airplane consoles again one for each plane. With these, you plot your maneuvers for each turn and track damage and conditions affecting your plane like being on fire or if your gun has jammed. To mark these on the console you use the counters from above.

Finally, this pack comes with the rulebook above, an A damage card deck, a C maneuvers deck for the Sopwith Camel, and a D maneuvers deck for the Fokker Triplane. Inside the A damage deck is also 6 trench cards that represent anti-aircraft machine guns that can be used in your games.

As I mentioned the rules cover the basic rules to get you flying but in order to get the most out of your games, you'll want to purchase the Rules and Accessories Pack which has the complete rulebook. If you're interested in Wings Of Glory I would recommend getting one of these Duel Packs... if this was years ago but in 2020 they have been sold out for years and they can be difficult to get. If you can find one of these for a decent price I'd say pick one up Wings Of Glory looks like fun. I would rate this Duel Pack an 8 out of 10.
