Wings Of Glory Albatros D.Va VS Sopwith Camel Dogfight AAR #2

Today I'll be flying a second sortie using the Wings Of Glory Basic Rules. In today's match, I'll be flying the  German Albatros D.Va (Yellow and Green Plane) of Karl Friedrich Kurt Jentsch and will be going up against a Belgium Sopwith Camel (Dark Green) of Jan Olieslager. I switched sides from my first AAR #1 so I can use the same planes but from the opposite sides to hopefully learn to both fly with and against each type. Just like my previous flight, I'll be using the Face to Face scenario that is in the Duel Pack Solo Rules book and the Sopwith Camel will be flying with AI using the solo rules by Herkybird of the Tyneside Wargames website.

The dogfight begins with both planes coming at each other with both firing on their third maneuver. The Camel takes no damage while the Albatros takes three damage.

The Albatros takes 3 Damage.

Turn 2 involves both planes maneuvering into a good shot but not able to take one.

On Turn 3 the Camel performs an Immelmann maneuver but isn't able to line up a shot against the Albatros while the German pilot does get a shot off on the Sopwith but for a second time misses leaving the Belgium Sopwith Camel with 0 damage while the German Albatros D.Va has three damage.

The Albatros performs an Immelmann turn and gets on the tail of the Sopwith but isn't within range so no shot during Turn 5.

During the second maneuver of the 6th Turn both planes line up for shots, the Sopwith takes 1 damage while the Albatros takes 3 damage and the Pilot is injured. At the end of Turn 6, the Sopwith Camel has 1 damage while the Albatros D.Va has 6 damage and the Pilot is injured.

Both planes just miss each other after getting shots off.

The Sopwith Camel nearly flys off the map during Turn 7. During the third maneuver, the Albatros gets a shot off doing 2 damage to the Camel. At the end of Turn 7, the Sopwith Camel has 3 damage while the Albatros has 6 damage along with the Pilot being wounded.

The Albatros causing 2 damage to the Sopwith Camel.

The Albatros lines a shot up during the 8th Turn and causes 1 damage to the Camel. At the end of the 8th Turn, the Sopwith Camel has 4 damage while the Albatros D.Va has 6 damage as well as the pilot being wounded.

Turn 9 finds the Camel jocking for a shot and gets one off but misses while the Albatros also shoots but finds its mark doing 5 damage to the Sopwith. At the end of Turn 9, the Sopwith Camel has 9 damage while the Albatros has a wounded pilot and 6 damage.

The plucky Albatros lines up another shot during Turn 10 and causes 2 damage to the Sopwith Camel. No other shooting occurs so at the end of Turn 10 the Sopwith Camel has 11 damage and the Albatros has a wounded pilot and 6 damage.

The Albatros deals 2 damage to the Camel in Turn 10.

Turn 11 saw both planes maneuvering in for attack runs but neither can get a shot off. Turn 12 has both planes firing at each other during their first maneuver, the Sopwith Camel takes 0 damage while the Albatros takes 5 damage and the plane bursts into flames. At the end of Turn 12, the Sopwith Camel has sustained 9 damage while the Albatros D.Va has sustained serious damage, the pilot is wounded and the plane is on fire with 11 damage.

In Turn 12 the Camel takes 0 damage while the Albatros takes 5 damage and the plane bursts into flames.

Turn 13 begins with the Albatros taking 5 damage from the fire destroying the plane and ending the dogfight. The win goes to the Sopwith Camel piloted by AI and the loss goes to me in the Albatros D.Va. Overall I think it was a good match but I think my luck did me in more than my tactics. My pilot was wounded, my plane burst into flames, and I got a lot of shots against the Sopwith that did little to no damage.

Here's the begging of Turn 13 and the end of my Albatros.

My next match will be another one on one but I will be using the Advanced Rules so it will be a complete game with all the rules. Come back next time for other exciting Wings Of Glory game!
