Strat-O-Matic 1988 Replay Cubs Games 9-11
The Cubs play their home opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
GAME 9: CHICAGO CUBS VS PITTSBURGH PIRATES

Rick Sutcliffe (0-1) earned his first loss of the season after lasting six innings and giving up eight hits, two strikeouts, five walks and five earned runs for an ERA of 7.50. Pat Perry came in to pitch the seventh and eighth inning giving up two hits, 1 walk and 1 earned run for an ERA of 4.50. Goose Gossage pitched the ninth inning and gave up one hit and struck out two batters.
The Cubs were shut out today while only getting six hits total, all singles by six different players.
Vance Law made an error for the Cubs.
For the Pirates, Doug Drabek earned the win in a complete game shutout giving up six hits and striking out four batters.
Andy Van Slyke went two for three with a RBI triple. Side Bream also went two for three with a RBI double.

Mike Bielecki (0-1) earned a no decision in today's game while pitching four innings and giving up nine hits, one walk, striking out four and giving up seven earned runs for an ERA of 15.75. Jeff Pico came in and pitched the fifth and sixth inning and gave up two hits, two strikeouts and one earned run for an ERA of 4.50. The next pitched the Cubs put in was Frank Dipino who pitched the next two innings and he only gave up one hit while striking out four batters, walking one and allowing two earned runs for an ERA of 9.00. After Dipino Pat Perry was put in to pitch the ninth inning and struck out one batter. To finish the last two innings Al Nipper came in and he earned the win for today's game while giving up one hit, walking one and striking out one batter.
In today's slugfest, Mark Grace went four for five with a walk and three RBIs. Ryne Sandberg was three for six with two strikeouts and was caught stealing. Damon Berryhill was two for five with a three-run home run. Darin Jackson was two for five with two RBIs.
The Pirates' starter was Mike Dunne and he lasted five innings while giving up eight hits, struck out two, walked four and gave up six earned runs for an ERA of 10.80. Barry Jones came in and pitched two and 1/3 innings giving up five hits, three strikeouts and four earned runs for an ERA of 15.43. Jeff Robinson pitched the next one and 2/3 innings giving up one hit, one walk, and one strikeout. Bob Kipper pitched the eleventh inning and earned the loss giving up two hits, striking out one batter, walking one and giving up one run for an ERA of 9.00.
Barry Bonds went two for six with a two-run home run. Andy Van Slyke was one for six with a two-run home run. RJ Reynolds went two for five and also hit a two-run home run.
GAME 11: CHICAGO CUBS VS PITTSBURGH PIRATES

Greg Maddux (2-0) earned the Cubs the win pitching seven innings giving up four hits, striking out three, walking six and allowing one earned run for an ERA of 1.29. Les Lancaster came in to pitch the eighth inning and gave up three hits, one walk, and three earned runs. Lancaster was quickly pulled and Goose Gossage was put in to finish the eighth giving up four hits and allowing three earned runs for an ERA of 27.00. Pat Perry pitched the ninth and earned a save allowing no batters to reach base.
Damon Berryhill went three for three with a walk, two doubles and a home run driving in four runners. Vance Law went three for five with a home run driving in two runs. Andre Dawson also went three for five with three doubles and driving in one run.
The Pirates starter was Brian Fisher and he earned the loss after pitching four and 1/3 innings giving up eleven hits, walking one, striking out two and giving up five runs for an ERA of 10.38. Dave Rucker came in to finish the fifth and sixth giving up no hits and striking out two. Jeff Robinson pitched the seventh and eighth innings giving up four hits, walking one and allowing three earned runs for an ERA of 13.50.
Andy Van Slyke was two for three with two walks, a strikeout, and a three-run home run. RJ Reynolds went one for five with a RBI single. Sid Bream was one for four today also with a RBI single.
After the Cubs first home series, they improve their record to (12-14) while the Pirates record stands at (4-17).
