Strat-O-Matic 1988 Replay Cubs Games 12-14


The Expos come to Wrigley for their second series against the Cubs this season. The Cubs record against the Expos this season is (2-1).

GAME 12 : CHICAGO CUBS VS MONTREAL EXPOS

Jamie Moyer (1-0) earned a no decision today after pitching six innings giving up three hits, striking out six and walking three batters. Frank Dipino pitched the next two and 2/3 innings giving up one hit, striking out two and walking one. Goose Gossage pitched the last 2/3 of the ninth and earned the save while giving up one hit.

Vance Law went two for four with a double. Andre Dawson went one for four with an RBI single.

Pascual Perez earned the lose today after giving up six hits, striking out four and allowing one earned run for an ERA of 1.17. Andy McGaffigan pitched the last third of the eighth inning giving up one hit and walking one.

The Pirates bats today were pretty quiet, five total hits for singles by five different batters.

Mike Fitzgerald committed an error today for the Expos.

GAME 13 : CHICAGO CUBS VS MONTREAL EXPOS

Al Nipper (1-0) earned the win today after pitching seven innings and giving up five hits, striking out three and allowing two earned runs for an ERA of 2.57. Les Lancaster pitched the last two innings giving up six hits and two earned runs for an ERA of 9.00.

Mark Grace went two for three today with a walk, and two home runs driving in four runs. Mitch Webster went two for five with a double and a home run to drive in three runs. Ryne Sandberg went one for four with an RBI double and a stolen base.

Ryne Sandberg committed a rare error at second today.

The Expos had Neal Heaton on the mound today who earned the loss after pitching only four and a third innings while giving up seven hits, striking out two, walking four and seven earned runs for an ERA of 14.54. Tim Burke relieved Heaton and went two and two thirds innings giving up three hits, three strikeouts and two runs for an ERA of 6.75. Joe Hesketh pitched the eighth inning giving up one hit, one walk and one earned run for an ERA of 9.00.

Hubie Brooks went two for four with a solo home run. Andres Galarraga went two for four with a double. Jeff Hudson went one for four with an RBI.

GAME 14 : CHICAGO CUBS VS MONTREAL EXPOS

Jeff Pico (1-0) earned his first win today in a complete game two hit shutout only giving up two hits, walking two and striking out nine batters.

Rafael Palmeiro went one for four with a two run home run. Shawon Dunston went two for three with a double. Ryne Sandberg had no hits in three at bats but was walked and stole second base.

Shawon Dunston committed an error at short for the Cubs.

Floyd Youmans earned the loss today after pitching six innings and giving up two hits, three strikeouts, three walks and two earned runs for an ERA of 3.00. Jeff Parrett pitched one inning of relief giving up two hits. Andy McGaffigan pitched the eighth inning giving up one hit.

The Expos only had two hits, a single for Jeff Hudson and a double by Dave Martinez.

With a three game sweep the Cubs improve their record to (15-14) while the Expos record sinks to (1-5). Up next for the Cubs is a three games series in Pittsburgh.
