Hello and welcome to Game 68 of my 2012 Strat-O-Matic New York Yankees season replay. Today the Yankees travel to Washington to take on the fourth place NL East Washington Nationals.
If you missed the Yankees previous game you can click here for Game 67. Today the Yankees starter will be Phil Hughes (4-4). Hughes has started 13 games this season and has pitched 81 innings while allowing 87 hits, 18 walks, 52 strikeouts for an ERA of 4.76. The Nationals will have Jordan Zimmermann (5-5) on the mound. Zimmermann has also started 13 games this season and has pitched an identical 81 innings as well as 81 hits, 15 walks, and 73 strikeouts for an ERA of 3.00. It's interesting that these two pitchers are close in wins and losses, have the same amount of starts and innings pitched while being close on hits and walks. The strikeouts are off by 21 and the ERAs are off by 1.76 so going in I'd give the edge to the Nationals so today looks like it's up to the Yankees bats.
