Masters Of The Universe Origins Now In Stores

With the global pandemic, I really don't have a reason to leave the house right now because my wife works out of the house and loves to shop so she buys the regular household items like food and whatnot. I've been to my local Wal-Mart twice since the world shut down, the first time I lucked out and found two of the rereleased Ghostbuster figures from the 1980s. On Monday she said she needed to do some shopping and asked me to come along so I agreed thinking that it would give me the change to go to the toy aisle and see if they have anything new and interesting that I may like and let me tell you I hit the jackpot.

Unless you're new to my blog you'll know that I have what some might say an unhealthy obsession with Masters Of The Universe which was the first toy line that I fell in love with as a kid. While most people grow up and move on to adult things that's not me so when I was going through the toy aisle and I found a bunch of brand new Masters Of The Universe toys I got that butterfly feeling in my stomach. It took me back to the 1980s when my mom would take me to Toys R Us and I'd make a mad dash for the He-Man toys.

I don't usually go into too much personal information about myself on this blog but I've mentioned it before that I've been suffering from a horrible back for many years and I've had three surgeries to "fix" the problem and what I can say is that while the doctor who performed the surgeries did an excellent job, unfortunately, they just didn't work and now I'm worse off than ever. Literally today I had a doctor's appointment and learned that not only do I need a fourth surgery due to my back just falling apart but I was also diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrom. If you don't know what that is, and I didn't either, there is a bundle of nerves at the base of the spinal cord which is being pressed on by the failed disk material in my back. The main symptoms for me are terrible pain in my back and down my legs and what made me realize that something more was going on than just regular back pain is bladder incontinence, fun right. While I could just wear a diaper and live with the pain, which really isn't a good option in my book, the problem is the nerves are being damaged by the disk material pressing upon it and if it isn't repaired in a timely manner I will become paralyzed which is something I definatley do not want so I'll most likely be having another surgery for my back before the end of the year.

So when my wife asked me to go to Wal-Mart with her, most likely to help get my mind off things, little did I know what would be waiting for me. I went looking for the rest of the Ghostbusters toys from the Wal-Mart exclusive figures but I found He-Man instead. They must have just put them out because they had a full set. Wave 1 includes six figures including He-Man, Teela, and Man-At-Arms for the Heroic Warriors and Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, and Beast Man for the Evil Warriors. If I had to guess I'd say there were at least five of each figure with He-Man and Skeletor having a few more. The only thing I couldn't find was the Wal-Mart exclusive Battlecat.

A couple quick observations on these new figures. First off I'm very happy that these action figures come with a comic book. The only issue is that there is one comic book for all the figures. They should have, at least in my opinion, made two different comics at a minimum, one for the Heroic Warriors and one for the Evil Warriors. Six figures with the same comic book is a little thin.

The other thing that impressed me was the price. I figured that these action figures would cost at least 20 dollars but $14.92 isn't too bad in my book. I think the reasoning behind this is that Mattel is trying to get actual kids to buy these action figures and parents aren't going to spend 25 or more for each action figure. Just these six figures are 90 dollars before tax whereas at just 25 dollars these six would be 150. If that isn't the case then I'm just happy that these are pretty affordable. I'll be reviewing these new MOTU figures in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned for more He-Man fun!
