Edwin Nunez came in and finished the game to earn the win. In 4 innings Nunez gave up 3 hits, 2 strikeouts, 2 walks and 0 runs.
It was a slug fest for the Mets today with the team getting 18 hits. Greg Jefferies was 3 for 8 with 2 singles and a double. Mookie Wilson was also 3 for 8 with an RBI. Kevin Elster was 3 for 8 with 2 singles and a double.
On the mound for the Padres was Andy Hawkins who pitched 6 innings while giving up 8 hits, 5 walks and 0 runs. Mark Davis relieved Hawkins and pitched 2 innings giving up 1 hit, 4 strikeouts and 0 runs. Lance McCullers relieved Leipter and pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 1.93 and earning him the loss. The Padres put Greg Booker to pitch the 17th inning and he gave up 2 hits and 0 runs.
Tony Gwynn was 3 for 6 with a walk in today's game. Keith Moreland was 1 for 5 with an RBI and a walk. Benito Santiago was 1 for 7 with an RBI.
