Strat-O-Matic 1988 Replay Cubs Game 30


Tonight the Los Angeles Dodgers come to Wrigley for a single game against the Cubs. The Dodgers record stands at (7-7) this season with their record against the Cubs at (3-0).

The Cubs earned their first win of the season against the Dodgers in a hard fought game. The Cubs starter today was Al Nipper who pitched six innings while giving up 1 walk, 6 hits, 1 strikeout, and 3 Earned Runs for an ERA of 4.50. Les Lancaster came in to pitch the seventh striking out one batter and allowing no base runners. Kevin Coffman pitched the eighth and ninth innings and earned the win while giving up one hit, one strikeout, three walks and no Earned Runs.

Vance Law went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Damon Berryhill was 3 for 4 with a double.

Fernando Velenzuela was the Dodgers starter who only allowed one hit and cruised through the first eight innings. Wanting a complete game win Velenzuela went to the mound in the ninth and quickly ran into trouble. Velenzuela allowed 11 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts and 4 Earned Runs for an ERA of 4.50. After loading the bases Velenzuela was pulled for Jesse Orosco. Orosco couldn't get the job done giving up 1 walk, 1 hit, and 0 Earned Runs. Fernando Velenzuela earned the loss for the Dodgers.

Kirk Gibson hits an early home run to give the Dodgers the lead. Franklin Stubbs was 2 for 3 with a RBI double. John Shelby went 1 for 4 with a single run batted in.

The Cubs are able to win their first game against the Dodgers while increasing their season record to (18-24) with the Dodgers record going to (7-8).
