Call Of Duty 2 Review

Call Of Duty 2 is a first person shooter released in the fall of 2005 by Infinity Ward and was a launch title for the Xbox 360 and was also released for Windows and mobile phones. It was the first Call Of Duty game released for the seventh generation of video game consoles and started what became a huge cash cow for Infinity Ward.

PLOT

Call Of Duty 2 is a first person shooter that takes place during World War 2. You play as four different characters that are part of the United States Army, British Army and the Red Army (Russia). The Red Army has you fighting off the Nazis during Operation Barbarosa with fighting taking place in Moscow and Stalingrad. The British campaign has you as a member of an armored division fighting in northern Africa against the Nazis. The American campaign has you landing at Normandy on D-Day and fighting your way through the Nazis to Germany.

GAME PLAY

Call Of Duty 2 introduced a few new ideas to first person shooters. The biggest one is the regenerating health. I like it when playing but in reality I wish it was closer to the old way to play where you could only increase your health with a med kit that you had to have on you or find in the game. If you are shot in real life you can't just hide behind a wall for 10 seconds until your health completely returns. I'm not putting this system down because it works well in this type of game especially when playing multi player.

Another big addition is the grenade warning. If a grenade drops around you the game tells you were it is so you can try to pick it up and throw it or take cover before it goes off. It's a big help because in other games, especially older games where there graphics aren't as good as on newer consoles, you would never see that a grenade landed by you until it's too late.

The game plays like a typical first person shooter, it's a little stiff compared to the never Call Of Duty games but it is still very playable.

PRESENTATION

Right before the Xbox 360 was released I remember going to my local Wal-Mart which had one setup up with Call Of Duty available to play. I remember it blew my mind at the time. The graphics looked phenomenal and the game played great. When I got my 360 the first game I bought for it was Call Of Duty 2 and I was very happy with my purchase. Today the game doesn't look very good, it actually looks pretty close to what a game that was released at the end of the Original Xbox's lifespan. You can see a definite difference between Call of Duty 2 and Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 which was released at the end of the Xbox 360's run.

The sound, music and voice work all sounds great. If you turn up the bass when you play and you can really hear the bombs going off around you.

SUMMARY

Call Of Duty 2 was a launch title for the Xbox 360 and does show it's age compared to new Call Of Duty games but it still is a great game. I give Call Of Duty 2 a 6 out of 10.
