The Houston Astros come to New York to face the Mets  for a single game.

Dwight Gooden went 9 innings in a no decision for the Mets today. Gooden surrendered 4 hits, 8 Ks, 0 BBs and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 1.00. Randy Meyers came in to pitch in the 10th inning and went 2 innings giving up 2 hits, 3 Ks, 0 BBs and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 4.50 which earned him the loss.

Greg Jefferies was 1 for 5 in the game with an RBI single. Howard Johnson was 1 for 4 with a double. Gary Carter went 1 for 3 with a double as well.

The Astros sent Danny Darwin to the mount and got 10 innings out of him which earned him the win. He gave up 7 hits, 9 Ks, 3 BBs and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 0.90. Dave Smith pitched an inning of relief giving up 0 hits, 1 K, 0 BBs and 0 Earned Runs for an ERA of 0.00.

Buddy Bell was 2 for 4 with a solo home run.

Today's loss brings the Mets record to (18-7) and the Houston Astros' record to (1-0)
